At Thursday night’s (08/15/24), Crooked River Ranch Fire Protection District Board of Directors meeting, the Directors continued their discussion regarding the PGE TAX REFUND and clearly feel it necessary stand up for the taxpayers and seek answers.

The Directors worked through the legal ramifications, political ramifications and the legislative ramifications that they had earlier described as their “three-prong” strategy.

Fire Board President David Palmer read aloud an excerpt from a portion of the current operative law and commented:

.

“What I got from that 1974 Oregon Supreme Court Opinion is that they don’t care-the law says this and that’s it.”

“It was a long time ago. I still do feel there is inquiries we can make legally...”

.

Fire Board Vice President Brad Pahl reported on some conversations he had with a Jefferson County Commissioner and “other people outside the Board” and they’re all saying,

“It’s the law, you’re going to pay it, there are no exceptions.”

Fire Board Treasurer Joesph Costigan commented:

“We need to ask the County some questions...”

Costigan continued and explained that a letter, in draft form, addressed to Jefferson County was ready to go and just needed the Fire Board’s stamp of approval. President Palmer and the Directors reviewed the letter and after some minor changes approved sending the letter immediately to the County.

Crooked River Ranch Special Road District (SRD) Chairman Lynn Breeden commented that he hadn’t seen the letter yet and suggested a “media blitz to see who would pick it up...”
