“WE WANT SOME ANSWERS”
.
Ranch Matters (RM) attended today’s Jefferson County Board of Commissioners meeting regarding the Portland General Electric (PGE) TAX REFUND issue.
The matter was not listed on their AGENDA, however, CRR/Fire Protection Director Brad Pahl raised the issue during Public Input.
.
Pahl: “The Fire District gets it’s money out of its taxes...” The Fire District’s refund portion “equates to almost an entire firefighters salary. There’s got to be a more equitable way to do this. “
.
“We understand, we understand that there’s a number of parties involved in this, the State of Oregon, PGE, Jefferson County, the State Supreme Court and the Oregon Legislature-back in the 1950’s when you did taxes with a pencil and an adding machine, they didn’t even have a calculator.”
.
“We want some answers. Some of this has kinda happened in a vacuum I guess.
We can’t get answers because everybody is pointing at everybody else.
So we’re going to ask questions so we can explain to our taxpayers why this is happening, why they’re paying sixty thousand dollars and getting nothing.”

.
RM commented/asked:
What are you actually going to do about this other than work with them ?
Is there going to be a county investigation?
You’re not just going to surrender and give them a check-or are you going to do something?
.
Commissioner Kelly Simmelink responded:
“If you were going to invade Crook County would you tell them exactly how you would do it?”
For the record, RM is not planning on invading Crook County.
.
CRR/Special Road District (SRD) Chairman Lynn Breeden attended the meeting via ZOOM and experienced technical difficulties and was unable to communicate with the Commission.
.
Breeden wanted to ask:
“Who actually created this monster-this refund mess and made this costly mistake?”
.
Breeden: “Is Jefferson County planning on investigating this fully before any taxpayers money is refunded to PGE?”
.
NOTE:
Prior to the meeting RM was told that the INTEREST amount has been removed and Fire Protection Director Pahl calculated the overall savings to be in the neighborhood of about Four Hundred Thousand.
