CRR/BOD WORK SESSION MEETING

Brief Report

“WAR AGAINST GOD?”

.

Yesterday (10/02/23), the Crooked River Ranch (CRR) Board of Directors held their monthly Work Session meeting.

.

The following Directors attended: President Kari Vickery, VP Bob Beveridge, Secretary Mike Dries, Treasurer Kelly Davis, Julia Randall, Ara Erdekian, Mike Carey and Sheryl Jones via zoom.

.

Meeting facilitated by President Kari Vickery and she followed the attached AGENDA

ITEM OF INTEREST

Manager Judy Lapora made some changes to the Flag Guidelines enumerated in the Ranch Policy & Procedures Handbook and asked for the Board’s approval.

Specifically, she wanted them to approve the flying of the Pride Flag.

The following language was added to the Policy & Procedures Handbook, Section P:

“decorative flags that are not vulgar or political, flags supporting diversity and inclusion.”

“FLAGS SUPPORTING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION”

The Board discussed and debated the matter, but when it was all said and done, they all voted to approve Lapora’s request with the exception of Director Randall that “abstained.”

After the meeting Ranch Matters asked President Vickery to clarify whether the Pride Flag has any political ramifications and she said “No.” She also stated for the record that the Pride/Diversity Flag is now an “approved flag” that can be flown by the Association membership.

WHY NOW?

.

Ranch homeowner Carol Orr brought to the Administration attention the Pride Flag. She initially received a response indicating the matter was under investigation.

The August 15, 2023, CC&R COMMITTEE MINUTES, Section C (2) states: 23-24-dtd- 7/3/23- Alphabet Flag-Rainbow flag hard to see unless wind is blowing & is in trees. 3rd letter sent. No indication of request ARC for approval or take down. Could move to open violation if no response to 3rd letter.”

Ms. Orr, attended yesterday’s meeting and wasn’t surprised to learn that the Pride Flag issue was an agenda item. She also wasn’t surprised that the Flag Rule was changed by Manager Lapora.

Ms. Orr responded: “I never received a final report regarding my inquiry and apparently the Board’s ruling is my answer.”

Orr added: “I believe it is a political issue and I’m certain it’s Biblical-Genesis 9:16.”

“WAR AGAINST GOD?”

Kevin Fiet, another Ranch homeowner provided the following email comment:

“I am not only offended by how easily Judy and/or the committee could influence the BOD regarding such a controversial issue as the ‘Pride’ flag, but I am also offended as a Christian.”

“The usual argument of diversity and inclusion should also apply to groups that are not affiliated with or in favor of the ‘Pride’ issue.

For Vickery to have the audacity to say that the ‘Pride’ flag isn’t political may be the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard this year… and that is REALLY saying something. Additionally, I find it extremely disturbing how quickly these people can change the rules when it fits their agenda.”
