THE BULLY & HIS PULPIT

JEFFERSON COUNTY COMMISSIONER FORUM

Brief Report

Last Monday night, (04/15/24), the Ranch Chapel hosted the Jefferson County Commissioner Forum. The event started at 6:30 p.m. and ended about 8:30 p.m. Only a handful of residents-less than 50 attended the event.

The Forum’s moderator was Jane Ellen Innes, Director of the Jefferson County Library District.

County public officials in attendance included Commissioners Wayne Fording, Mark Wunsch, Special Road District Director Lynn Breeden and Planning Commissioner Michelle Parcel.

HOA Directors in attendance: Julia Randall

Ms. Innes started off by introducing herself and the candidates present. A woman in the audience asked: “Do you think we should start the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance?” Ms. Innes responded:

“Since its already started I’m going to say no.”

Forum Candidates: Seth Taylor, George (Wes) Curtiss, Ranch resident Ara Erdekian, Shawn Stanfill, Brandie McNamme and Rick Molitor. Candidate Cindy Brockett did not attend due to another commitment.

There were six prepared POLICY related questions, six BUDGET related questions and seven MANAGEMENT related questions.

Citizens in attendance were not allowed to ask questions or make comments.

.

All of the candidates did a great job answering the prepared questions that afforded the voters a snap shot of their personal lives and what they stand for.

.

Because candidate Erdekian is a current Ranch resident and HOA Director, Ranch Matters (RM) has had an opportunity to see the real Erdekian and his particular management style up close and personal and it’s not good.

One of the management questions asked about leadership quality related to empathy. “Part of being a successful leader takes empathy. Please share an example of how you have evolved as a public or private leader regarding the care of others.”

.

EMPATHY or APATHY?

.

In June of 2022, Erdekian and his colleagues on the HOA Board, unanimously voted to impose three retaliatory/punitive resolutions restricting homeowners rights.

.

Interestingly, the subject resolutions were approved secretly by the Board and anyone questioning the validity of the resolutions were subject to fines and liens.

.

Erdekian’s Board weaponized their ability to target, control and financially punish select homeowners they deemed the enemy.

.

The HOA Board actually fined and later placed a lien against a homeowner-widow, living on a fixed income over asking: “WHAT PROTECTS US FROM THEM?”, meaning the HOA Board of Directors.

Erdekian has demonstrated repeatedly his lack of empathy as a Ranch Director and some would say he not only lacks empathy, but is a “BULLY.”

.

He wants what he wants and he will run roughshod over anyone in his way, including apparently the County Commissioners.

.

Erdekian: “We see County Commissioners come here, make promises, tell us how great they are, tell us how much it counts and then when do we see them? We see them on a float on July 4th, just so we can look at them and say that’s our County Commissioners.”

.

The economy is in trouble. People are struggling to pay their basic bills and again demonstrating a lack of empathy, Erdekian wants the citizens and homeowners to pay higher Dues and higher Taxes.

.

POST MEETING

.

Commissioner Wayne Ford approached Erdekian after the meeting about some of Erdekian’s statements that Fording felt required corrected and clarified.

Specifically, Erdekian’s comments/complaints regarding the TOT (Transient Occupancy Tax) related to the Ranch.

Fording: “He (Erdekian) made it sound like that the Ranch doesn’t get their fair share of that tax.

And I reminded him-Ara, when we met, we asked you to bring us a proposal and you never came back.”

.

Erdekian also named Sahalee Park as one of the County’s Parks and Fording reminded him that it’s a Madras City Park.

.

Fording: “I think he (Erdekian) had some of his stats wrong. Like I said, he met with us and we said if there’s something that had to do with tourism, bring us the project.”

“HE NEVER CAME BACK.”

.

Fording: “I was just frustrated because he was criticizing the County, but yet he never once came back with any type of proposal.”

.

Fording was asked if he has a particular candidate he would like to endorse and he replied not yet.

.

RM on the other hand knows who not to endorse.
