Breeden stated the meeting was about some “over payment made to Jefferson County last year by Portland General Electric (PGE) and a Tax refund in the amount of $1,783,929 due back to PGE.”

Breeden: “I want the taxpayers to know that this tax refund to PGE is based on the County over assessing PGE properties and all of the County government entities are on the hook to PGE.”

He added: “The SRD doesn’t receive any services or money from PGE and feels the taxpayers are being forced to pay for someone else’s mistake, a $15,921.32 mistake out of the SRD’s pocket.”

He was told there is very little or no recourse available and was,

“Advised by County Counsel that the Taxing Districts shouldn’t oppose State law.”

Breeden is unhappy with this situation and plans on looking further into why the SRD is paying for someone else’s costly mistake.

“By Hook or By Crook I plan on getting more information for the taxpayers.”

As an aside, Breeden felt that there should have been a public meeting notice.
