CRR SPECIAL ROAD DISTRICT (SRD) MEETING

Brief Report

Today’s SRD Meeting was called to Order by SRD Chair Sue Haley at 10:00 AM and adjourned about 10:30 AM.

All SRD Commissioners present-Ann House and Dana Pierce along Ranch Director Sarah Woolverton.

Ranch Manager Judy Lapora, Ranch VP Ara Erdekian and Water Company General Manager Frank Day attended via zoom.

HOT TOPIC-Sundown Canyon Road

“THE TOPIC NEEDS TO BE CLOSED”

.

Haley’s Opening Remarks:

“As you know I sent a letter out to all the residents living on Sundown Canyon, asking for their suggestions for ways to improve safety on that road.

I invited all, as many as wished to come to this meeting today to offer their suggestions. Before I open that discussion, I’d like to report that last week I met with High Desert Aggregate & Paving out on Sundown Canyon Road and I asked them to put together a cost estimate for building the road with the water vault is out over the slope as opposed to moving the water vault…”

Ms. Haley continued explaining High Desert’s option to “contain the road-to hold the road up” and added:

“If the SRD, being a public agency, built this structure, we would have to pay prevailing wage, so that cost would be four hundred twenty-seven thousand nine hundred fifty- $427,950.”

“If the Water Company decided to build this portion of the road around the vault, you could reduce that cost by about 30%…”

Haley read a couple of emails into the record that included one from former Ranch Director Mark Schneider.

“Two or three people, I should say, offered suggestions for safety improvements on the road and one of them was Mark Schneider.

He would like to see two things happen. He would like it plowed more often which Jordan has trouble keeping up with the roads he’s got, cinders would help he said…”

.

Chair Haley then invited Sundown Canyon residents in attendance to step up to the podium. Two spoke and neither felt it necessary to address the Water Vault issue.

She closed the discussion before Water Company Manager Frank Day spoke.

Haley re-opened the discussion and allowed Frank Day to respond via zoom. Frank’s remarks focused on the fact that none of the Sundown Canyon residents seemed interested in Haley’s expensive project and he suggested the

“SRD CLOSE THIS CHAPTER FOR MOVING THE VAULT…”

Haley: “Well Frank, thank you, I probably won’t close it quite yet. I will take it under advisement however.”

Day: “I would like to go on the record and say-to state, I don’t necessarily think that anybody on the Ranch feels that the entire Ranch or the entire population of the water system or the entire Ranch should have to pay FOUR HUNDRED PLUS THOUSAND DOLLARS to fix a section of road for 30 people that purchased property down there…”

Frank repeated:

“THE TOPIC NEEDS TO BE CLOSED.”
