“STATE CONTROL vs LOCAL CONTROL-OUT OF CONTROL?”
Today, Jefferson County Commissioner/Chair Kelly Simmelink sat down with Ranch Matters and discussed his thoughts and concerns regarding Governor Kate Brown’s latest mask mandate involving schools and associated penalties.
Simmelink concerns boils down to how local control has been hijacked by the State, the lack of scientific proof supporting the mask requirement and Brown’s penalties.
Simmelink stated, “Why wouldn’t you ask the locals, what’s the purpose having local elected officials?…”
Commissioner Simmelink read from a portion of a letter recently sent to Governor Brown by State Senator Lynn Findley regarding the lack of scientific evidence for mask requirements. Findley stated, “FIRST, scientific data specific to Oregon necessitating the statewide, schools- wide, grade-wide mask mandate needs to be made public and accessible immediately. Dr. Dean Sidelinger communicated to legislators during a conference call on Monday, August 2 that there is NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE that schools or children grades K-12 are responsible for community spread.”
“WHY ARE WE PUTTING MASKS ON OUR KIDS?”
Simmelink is “irked” by the proposed penalties listed by the Oregon Department of Education against alleged violators. He stated, “There’s penalties for school board members, penalties for superintendents, penalties for teachers and administrators…”
