RUN HIDE OR FIGHT

12/20/18, 6:46 PM

Ranch Matters, while discussing emergency, security and safety issues with Sheriff Jim Adkins the other day, asked Sheriff Adkins if his Office had any written Active Shooter Protocols. He stated he has no written protocols, but quickly added, the suggested procedure would be,

“RUN, HIDE OR FIGHT.”

Sheriff Adkins added, residents need to learn to be more aware of their surroundings-looking for irregularities and mentally be prepared for anything at anytime. Knowing your environment is extremely important. Familiarization with all exit points, possible hiding locations and if you have a license to carry a concealed weapon, carry it.

Emergency/Security/Safety questions regarding Crooked River Ranch has been a controversial topic that we have been directly involved in. In the past, Ranch Officials have resisted implementing any kind of safety and security programs. However, maybe things are about to change.

Recently, the Ranch Board has taken an interest in one aspect of an overall security program- ACTIVE SHOOTER. The Board will be assessing vulnerabilities and exploring ways to reduce the risk.

On January 11, 2019, Jefferson County Deputies Lt. Anderson and Sgt. Grote will be conducting an Active Shooter presentation at the Ranch Chapel.

This is a first, of a series of reports regarding safety and security issues on the Ranch.
