AIRSHOW OF THE CASCADES 20th Anniversary takes off this Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
Today, Ranch Matters spent the day at the Madras Airport talking to pilots and aircrew personnel as they prepared for Friday’s take off.
JETJOCK, Gerod Flohr, Call Sign “Tile”, fly’s a restored Vietnam era A-4 Skyhawk fighter attack jet.
According to Flohr, the Skyhawk was used by the Navy Blue Angels, Top Gun and was a trainer for Naval Aviators.
He will be flying his jet in the AIRSHOW this weekend and invited residents of Crooked River Ranch to attend the show and check out his fighter.
Further down the tarmac we took a sentimental journey figuratively and literally. The Commemorative Air Force based out of Arizona flew in a restored WW II era B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber named
Crew Member, Bill Croutch took time out of his busy day and provided us not only with a guided tour of the bomber, but also an interesting history lesson involving the men who flew missions over Europe during the war.
Croutch emphasized the importance of the bomb bay doors (“DOORS OF HONOR”) on the bottom of the aircraft and stated: “There are signatures on bomb bay doors of WWII veterans…”
