“PIONEERED INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM” & “MUCKRAKER”
Ida Tarbell (November 5, 1857-January 6, 1944)
Ms. Tarbell’s research methods and attention to details have been used as a training model for inspiring investigative journalists.
In 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt labeled Ms. Tarbell’s techniques as “muckraking”, but she could not be bothered by labels, she used her talents in the search for truth. She has been quoted, “that truth and motivations of powerful human beings could be discovered.”
We need more women like IDA today.
