The Jefferson County Veterans’ Service office strives to provide courteous and confidential assistance to Jefferson County veterans and their dependents who are applying for local, state, and federal benefits.
The Selective Service System needs your help. As of May 13, 2019, they are in need of ONE Local Board Member who resides in Jefferson County. Additionally, they can always use additional volunteers to fill any future vacancies.
Who’s eligible to serve as a Local Board Member?
“¢ You must be 18 years or older, a U.S. citizen and reside in Jefferson County.
“¢ You must have registered with Selective Service, if required.
“¢ You may NOT be an employee of any law enforcement organization.
“¢ You may NOT be an active or retired member of the armed forces.
“¢ You must NOT have been convicted of any criminal offense.
What happens if you join?
“¢ You will serve in the community you live in, and provide valuable service.
“¢ You can volunteer to serve for up to 20 years.
“¢ You will be trained in Selective Service laws, regulations, and procedures to help you make fair and equitable decisions.
What is the time commitment?
The time requirements are not significant and consist of the following:
o A quick two page application
o A very short interview with one of the Oregon team members
o 90 minutes of an online training course.
o Once that is completed, there are two conference short calls a year to update the Local Board Members on Selective Service System national level activities and priorities.
