MAC APPEAL

.

.

The Jefferson County Planning Commission held their third back-to-back hearings last Thursday (10/27/22), at the Crooked River Ranch (CRR) Chapel regarding the MacPherson’s family proposal to build 54 residential lots on CRR.

.

.

The Commission initially heard testimony from the applicant’s attorney, Adam Smith that included a slide presentation, as well as a heartfelt appeal from Murry MacPherson directed at the homeowners and not the Commission.

Testimony from the public clearly emphasized serious safety concerns along with frustrations associated with the process-the laws and codes.

.

CRR Director Ara Erdekian testified during the subdivision portion as a homeowner-not as a Director. Erdekian’s testimony was unclear to many regarding his position on the MacPherson proposal and Ranch Matters (RM) asked him later for clarification. He stated he’s “undecided.”

.

Jefferson County Community Director, Scott Edelman told RM the zoning change issue is the “Big One”, the “Complex One” and it is the staff’s job is to ensure the applicant information is correct and meets code.

He reiterated that the Jefferson County Planning Department makes recommendations based on state law and county codes/rules. Once that is completed the process switches gears to the subdivision level and public input is actually more of a formality.

Edelman added: “He appreciated the thoughtful input from the public both in support and against the project-they came well prepared.”

.

The Planning Commissioners will deliberate and likely make their decision on a formal recommendation at the November 17th meeting.
