JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONER’S MEETING

Commission Chair, Kelly Simmelink followed the attached AGENDA

Following the Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation the Chair entertained Public Comments.

*Judy Embanks, wife of Madras City Councilor Royce Embanks, called in and read from a prepared statement or should we say a RANT. She stated immediately the following: “Our Commissioners have aligned themselves with the People’s Rights Group and invited them into our town…”

Ms. Embanks went on to accuse Scott Stuart, from the People’s Rights Group (PRG) and the People’s Rights Group itself of “being investigated by the FBI…” Ms. Embanks read a statement authored by Oregon Governor Kate Brown issued January 2, 2021, regarding local politicians, “willingly mislead(ing) business owners into jeopardizing public health…”

According to Ms. Embanks, the Governor stated, “Local Elected Officials do not have the authority under Oregon law to DISAGREE with my Emergency Orders or to authorize anyone else to do so…”

Following Ms. Embanks, CRR resident Carol Orr called and weighed in.

*Teresa Baggett from PRG addressed the Commission and thanked them for their support before introducing Scott Stuart.

Stuart commended the Commission for writing Governor Brown today advocating for local businesses and citizens…

*Maurice, who identified himself as the “Culprit from Culver” talked about COVID issues “getting out of hand” and therapeutics that work, but not prescribed…

*Andrea Brown-“Not Related to Governor Brown” conveyed to the Commission some of her observations from working at McDonald’s with young adults “severely impacted” by the pandemic…

*Unidentified woman having a “difficult time controlling her emotions” reminded the Commission that not everyone is suffering. She stated, “That government employees get paid whether they go to work or not…”

*Commission discussed and approved sending their letter to Governor Brown regarding reopening businesses

During a break RM had an opportunity to speak with Commissioner Huston regarding Ms. Embanks comments. Huston briefly stated, “I appreciate what the People’s Rights is doing.”

Chair Simmelink asked RM to relay the following: “We, the Commission, encourage citizens to get involved, ask questions and write their public servants.”
