Jefferson County Board Of Commissioner’s Hearing

5/22/19, 5:11 PM

SHIPPING CONTAINERS BANNED

At about 1:30 PM today the County Commissioners held a Public Hearing regarding Banning Shipping Containers in the residential areas on Crooked River Ranch only.

Before the Hearing was closed, Ranch President Carl Harbour testified confirming the Ranch Board of Directors is in favor of the Shipping Container Ban.

After closing the Hearing, the Commissioners deliberated and voted unanimously to uphold the Ban.
It should be noted that Shipping Containers purchased prior to 2006 will be grandfathered.

Ranch Matters spoke with County Administrator, Jeff Rasmussen regarding enforcement procedures. According to Mr. Rasmussen, enforcing this Ban may be problematic and actual enforcement procedures will be determined at a later date.

Ranch Matters asked Mr. Rasmussen if Drones would be used to detect Shipping Containers not visible from Ranch roads and he replied, “no drones would be employed unless there is a Public Health Issue involved or other law enforcement matter.”

After the Hearing concluded, President Harbour approached the Commissioners and discussed his concerns regarding a Ranch business owner and resident that wants to convert school buses into rental cabins in the Commercial Zone on Chinook Drive.
Harbour clearly stated, the Board of Directors will not support this plan and will be sending a letter to the resident.

However, according to Tanya Cloutier, Jefferson County’s Code Enforcement Officer, the County could allow this business venture to proceed, as long as all of the requirements are met. Ms. Cloutier added, the buses currently stored on Shad can remain while the resident actively pursues the business plan that includes making the school buses usable.
