HOME ON THE RANGE

“Please don’t judge us”

Homelessness is on the raise and according to some reports, Oregon is experiencing a serious increase in homelessness. Reasons vary, but housing costs is at the center of the crisis.

Central Oregon is littered with homeless people camping in tents and RVs on and off the roads and even Crooked River Ranch has a young homeless couple.

McKayla, 20 and her boyfriend Jason have made CRR home-on BLM land. They set up camp and have been “struggling to get back on their feet.”

McKayla is aware that their camp site is on some residents radar and stated: “I understand that there’s been a lot of talk over social media and with a lot of the people on Crooked River Ranch as well. I know this is something, you know a problem that goes around a lot here in Central Oregon and everywhere else.

We’re not a harm to you guys or anyone and are trying to get ourselves out of this situation…”

She added: “We just hope that you guys and everyone else can just understand that we’re not in this because we want to be and we’re not out here running amok…”

McKayla stressed they’re not dangerous, have no weapons or contraband and haven’t made any camp fires. She understands the fire danger associated with living on the range and is very careful.

McKayla: “Unless you’re willing to put yourself in our shoes, please don’t judge us.”
