“HITTING THE GROUND RUNNING”
Sheriff Marc Heckathorn Sworn In
This morning, Jefferson County Undersheriff Marc Heckathorn was sworn in as Sheriff by County Clerk Kate Zemke before a packed house that included his family, Jefferson County Commissioners Kelley Simmelink, Mae Huston, friends and supporters.
Prior to the swearing in ceremony Heckathorn made some opening remarks that included thanking retired Sheriff Jim Adkins for “grooming him for the position” and explained how the two of them “ran the office side by side” as part of the grooming process. Heckathorn ended his remarks stating there’s a lot going on at the Sheriff’s Office and he’s planning on “hitting the ground running.”
Sheriff Heckathorn took the following Oath of Office:
I, Marc Heckathorn, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Oregon. I will faithfully and honorably discharge the duties of the Jefferson County Sheriff, to the best of my abilities, so help me God.
With Heckathorn sworn in, Sheriff Adkins presented him with his badge as part of the “changing of the guard” ceremony.
After the ceremony Ranch Matters had an opportunity to speak with Adkins about his future plans and what he will miss most about retiring. He responded, “Helping people when they ask…” Then he added, “I won’t miss the stress of the jail and the legislature changes coming out of Salem…”
