DRAGON FLYERS- PART 2
Follow-Up
.
As reported yesterday, Hillsboro Aero in Redmond has been training Chinese student pilots during the current COVID-19 Crisis.
.
.
We initiated a preliminary investigation that included reaching out to the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco and Los Angeles to no avail along with contacting our local County Commissioner’s in Jefferson County.
.
Jefferson County Commissioner, Wayne Fording was concerned and stated, he “wants to know more” and asked, “ Why are they (Hillsboro Aero) getting a pass.” He indicated communicating with the Governor’s Office might be in order along with discussing the matter with the other Commissioners.
.
A short time later we had an opportunity to interview Jefferson County Commission Chair, Kelly Simmelink. Simmelink stated, in part, “…we are in the process of verifying that they (Hillsboro Aero) are still operating during this pandemic.”
.
Further, “We appreciate the sacrifices that flight schools like Berg Air and others businesses have made during this crisis.” “Unfortunately, it appears that some continue to place their own interests above the health, safety and well being of our communities in Central Oregon.”
.
“I have reached out to the Governors Regional Solutions Office for a statement and will continue to verify that the said company is violating Executive Order 20-10.”
.
Simmelink sent us the EMAIL RESPONSE.
.
Less than an hour later, Simmelink called to report that he contacted the Governors Office and according to the Governor’s representative, “She was unaware that the Governors Order was not being followed as of today.” She added, “Of course, we will all hope that a thorough investigation is made to either confirm or deny these allegations…”
.
Simmelink sent us a second email RESPONSE also.
