Tonight the Jefferson County Board Commissioner’s held a Special (De Novo) Public Hearing at the Madras Performing Arts Center regarding the church proposal. It started at 5:30 PM with County Chair, Kelly Simmelink presiding along with Commissioner’s Wayne Fording and Mae Huston.
After opening remarks the applicant, Frank wood provided new testimony regarding his modified application and answered questions. The Commissioner’s allowed for public input and only one resident testified against the project.
On 8/27/20, we reported that the Jefferson County Planning Commission held their final public hearing regarding the church proposal, but due to “multifaceted” provisions and too many unanswered questions they voted to deny the project as submitted.
Frank Wood filed an Appeal Request on 9/14/20 and according to Phil Stenbeck, Jefferson County Community Development Director, appeals of this nature are accepted or denied by the County Board of Commissioner’s. Stenbeck stated, the County approved the appeal and referred to it as a “De Novo” appeal, meaning the applicant is starting from the beginning.
According to Stenbeck, the new application only included a church and caretakers home.
In summary, the Commissioner’s closed the meeting for deliberations and voted unanimously to approve the project as modified.
