CHICKEN SHIT?

Are noisy chickens and roosters regulated by the Jefferson County Code Enforcement Department and does the Ranch CC&R Committee have any say?

.

The CC&R Review Committee Minutes for August 16, 2022, reflect Committee Member, Mel Tellinghusen investigated a “Rooster/hens noise nuisance” complaint and referred to the matter as a “Gray area.” The Minutes state: “22-29-Rooster/hens noise nuisance. Mel has met with the complainant & heard rooster. Will send letter. Gray area as Jeff Co does not have a noise restriction.”

.

We contacted Jefferson County Code Enforcement Officer, John Slyter for some answers. According to Slyter, there are no restrictions regarding chickens and/or roosters in the unincorporated areas of Jefferson County. Additionally he confirmed Code Enforcement doesn’t handle alleged noise violations. Noise related complaints are reported to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

.

FULL DISCLOSURE: We own chickens.
