JEFFERSON COUNTY

SHERIFF JIM ADKINS RETIRING

Ranch Matters confirmed today, Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins submitted his retirement papers effective June 30, 2021.

The Jefferson County Commission will be addressing Adkins retirement issue on Wednesday, April 7th at their regular meeting. Adkins is recommending Undersheriff Marc Heckathorn as his replacement.

He told us after 35 years of serving the public he’s “ready to take it easy” and thanked all of his constituents.

Adkins stated he’s retiring before his term expires because he “doesn’t have the energy, which is going to be required in the next year…”. He feels Heckathorn has the energy and the education to take over.
