BELT OR NO BELT?

At today’s Work Session meeting, Ranch Manager Judy Lapora presented the Board with a last minute agenda item regarding the

“Crooked River Ranch Seat Belt Policy.”

.

Lapora: “ I just wanted to start with the fact that, everybody knows that we had an accident with the water truck and that created some pretty significant injuries-a set of injuries, for our driver.

.

WE DON’T KNOW WHETHER OR NOT HE WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT…”

.

“GOOD NEWS”?

.

“The good news is that we did have an OSHA Investigation and the investigator told us that we actually scored between an A and an A minus because of the procedures, safeguards and safety protocols that we have in place…”

.

The Ranch might have gotten an A, but they also got fined “$180.00”, according to Lapora.

.

WHY THE FINE?

.

Email response from CRR Admin:

.

“Hi John, Judy said that all she knows is what she was told at the meeting with the OSHA rep.

The fine was due to the fact that they could not ascertain whether or not Gary (the driver) was wearing his seat belt. Judy has not received the written report yet.”

.

SOME EVIDENCE?

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Hatcher, the driver, Gary Pearse, admitted NOT wearing his seat belt and his police report reflects Gary’s admission.

.

“I asked Gary if he was wearing his seat belt prior to the crash in which he responded to me by nodding NO!”

.

As a side note, Ranch Matters pointed out the discrepancy involving Lapora’s seat belt report.
